I notice that very little posting is going on.
Are we bored with this Mtn Man board or is it that most are jumping back into the 18th century over on Mikee's board?
I just can't get very interested in the 18th century any more. I have all the books and documentation, but the librarians have ruined it for me pretty much...
I will continue to attend the Colonial Encampment out here, but those guys aren't stitch counting nuts... They let the individual be as period correct as he wants to.... No one is forcing anyone else to do anything...
I am getting somewhat excited about researching and building a new Mountain Man outfit.... Nothing big and complicated like my 18th century outfit got, but just something to have fun with.
Still, my largest interest is the cowboys and horses.... But, I am like the librarians in the cowboy shooting world... I like the horses and riding far more than I like the shooting....
Any hoo, I hope we aren't loosing interest here. I sure do want to have discussions concerning the clothing, guns and gear of the mid period mtn man.

Lloyd, I'm still in here and hoping this will go, so far there seems to be a good exchange of ideas and information, maybe we just need to get out on the ground more , to get that energy up. I know for me anyway I need the renewal that the campfire gives me.

I'm here but busy with other things such as orders and keeping the mud flows to a minimum - no rain for almost 70 days and now it won't stop. A week ago we got 2 inches in 45 minutes - washed the road out and you can bet I was keeping a good eye on the 80° slope behind the house - the normally dry arroyos just to the south of the house looked like rivers of mud.. When this caliche dirt gets wet it likes to slide..... I've got a lot of various pdf files that I've down loaded over the years and am planning on hosting them on my website and then linking them here for the convenience of all. Also have some good infos on guns carried by a bunch of Texian raiders on the Santa Fe Trail in 1843 - an interesting grouping....

Pretty sure it ain't this board. Lotsa info here. I was pretty bored with all boards... How many times can ya discuss the same stuff.
I stopped being a thread counter years ago. Don't care anymore. Stopped being fun. I continue to call myself a "historical experimenter". "They" used a flinter, I try using a flinter> Don't much care what kind it is. I do RMFT, now, so my flinter is representative of what "they" used.
Gettin on the ground is what it's all about. Went out with some fellas from Fort Lupton last weekend. we were at a place that was hard for a 4 wheeler to get to, kept the riffraff out. We sent up "period" camp and shot guns, drank whuskey, ate good food, fished, hiked(not trekked, LOL) and saw no one. This is what this sport is to me...

I am spending so much time with my horses that I haven't been doing my job in the gun building department. I haven't made it out one night this year.... I might be able to take a little horse trip later this fall. Doug, Sorry to hear that you have to part with the whites... However, with the price of hay, I can understand why... They, like mine, eat far more money in hay than the use we get out of them. I just love having them around. Chuck, Will be giving you a call later this week, the urinary problem is much better. Blackhorse, There are some area's out there southeast of Brush that I would love to saddle up and explore.... Even some down south of Lemon... I like that edge of the plains area. I have been intrigued for years with the area down around Kit Carson. Being also a bit of a cowboy, I have often fantasied about the little village of Woodrow..... Right on the Goodnight /Loving trail from Texas to Montana... Could there really have been a Capt Call? ??

Not losing interest---just haven't had much time of late. Finished irrigating last night, first night of decent sleep in two weeks, now harvest is really biting at me. Spent the day getting the combines ready to roll, with luck I'll be in the field tomorrow.
That, and I'm not a real talkitive guy, anyway. I do have some photos that I'd like to post, I'll see if I can email them to Chuck and have him put them into a format that I can post (photobucket hates me!).

How do! IMHO... Yes and no. I have been playing on on-line Boreds (sic) since about 1999 plus, and have watched them not only come and go, but wax and wane with the seasons. Summer is typically a bad time, as folks are out doing their hobbies, as well as outdoor chores, tasks, and family stuff. Plus new boreds (sic) are like a new restaurant in town. It is new and different, and the parking lot is filled for a week or three. For a new and unknown board, "we" started small, with a handful of lads. But have added a few more along the way. IMHO still, there have been some great disscussions and info sharing here. WHERE WERE YOU LADS in 1979 when I could have used ya? Mick Archer It was hard to be a mountainman in the Alleghenies/Appalachians, surrounded by bucksinners

I was ten, was generally roaming the bottomland hardwoods and rivers pretending it was Wyoming, and had just picked up a copy of Devoto's book "Across the Wide Missouri".
