Hey guys, I'm Leif. I'm the new moderator of the Rocky Mountain College forum. I must apologize for not introducing myself sooner. I know things have been slow here, however, I think we can turn that around. What I'd like to encourage our members to do is to share this forum on the different social media sites that you use, for example, the different Living History and Fur Trade pages that you are a part of on Facebook. Now, obviously, not all the people who are a part of those pages have the same mindset that many of us do here. If we get a number of new folks who fall more into the "old tymey buckskinner" crowd, please, exercise patience with them. This is a great forum for us to help instruct and teach those who are currently on their "historic based" journey as well as those who will hopefully be transitioning to it. Should issues crop up, please private message me.

Leifer, I'm glad to see you as the new moderator. While I don't know you personally, I have heard of your escapades in the mountains and am glad to see you ion charge of this forum. I'll try to do my part here and keep the conversation going.

Leifer, Thanks for taking the job as Moderator. I agree this website is great, Chuck did a great service to us all by setting it up. I'm sure he'd be right proud to know it is being kept up and that you particularly have taken on the reins. I know I'm happy about it. HUZZAH!

Its been awhile since I've been back on here, but I'm glad of it. Facebook has gotten somewhat stale; especially the politics BS.

I hear you Pare. Facebook has a lot of good to offer us, along with a lot of not so good. One of the things I appreciate about a forum like this is that we can actually search the threads and find stuff! It's an absolute pain to do so on Facebook.

I stayed up late reading some of your blog. My wife was a little upset this morning, so naturally I pointed my finger at you to escape her wrath! lol jk I read about how you were out of char cloth while with your girls. I read this in Henry Ellsworth's journal of when he traveled out here with Irving, Latrobe and the Swiss Count, de Pourtales, in 1834. Makes me wonder how wide-spread this was... Pare-

I think it wouldn't be as big of a problem when the party or brigade is together. Fighting that complacency though, and making sure you're collecting dry tinder as you travel along, would be extremely important, especially as the groups split off and you were by yourself or just a couple of other people.
I currently have some dried elk droppings that I found this past summer in the mountains of Idaho that I'm going to char up and see how they catch hold. I'm interested in trying making some "flash paper" as well.
