I finally got that "close enough for me" copy of that .54 J. Henry rifle I've had a hankering for. Big brown truck just dropped it off and I'm dying to fire it's first shot out of it. I wonder where my wife is going to sleep tonight?

Thanks Duane. I will try and get a few pics up if I can figure it out. I bought that western fur trade rifle from TVM. .54 cal, 40" Rice barrel with late English L&R lock and premium plus maple stock. I've shot muzzleloaders for a while but all have been percussion. This is my first flintlock so I'll probably be asking a lot of dumb questions.

Hey Jon, Good on ya and good luck with the new flinter. We all look forward to seeing a picture of her. Man, I'm not sure which is more fun, a new rifle or a new girl friend! And I know you've heard it before but, there is no such thing as a dumb question. And I'm pretty sure each and every one of us will have asked the same or dumber questions before so we should be able to help you out. The main thing I will say is, as you start out is please use Black Powder only especially for your priming. And you don't need to fill your pan, maybe just start with a half filled pan or even less. A good lock don't need a whole bunch and a smaller explosion in your face will help you to not develop the shivers. Now with that said, get out and shoot her and let us know how it went!
Cheers, Doug T.

Thanks Doug. This is the rifle with the sight I'm trying to notch. I haven't shot it yet, just rubbed and hugged on it. I don't think my wife cares as long as I leave her alone! Just Kidding. Can't wait to fire it off though. I'll still try and get a pic of it up on the site.
