do any of you guy's use just a ramrod without any fitting on it in other words just a plain rod.

When I carried my smoothbores, they had ramrods with a flared end for wads. Other than that, they were plain. No threaded ends or anything. Just a flared shotgun tip, to keep the wads from turning.

My ramrods have always had either brass or iron tips on them threaded to take a jag. I've never used just a plain wood ramrod although I've seen pictures of guns with them.

Turkey reel, Have you ever tried a steel spring type worm ? It worked for me real well. I used one of those till I got my Bess, then I went to a musket tool.

Hey Pete, I have one of those wire ones that I've used on the bare end of my ramrods to retrieve lost patches. It seems to work okay for that. I use jags for cleaning.
