Due to a partially crushed foot, I am unable to wear moccasins, are there any boots or shoe's that would be period appropriate.

I bought a pair of handmade "Bespoke" Jefferson boots from Clay Landry. He has a saddle and horse gear leather business called Historical Leatherworks Enterprises. I'm not near my own computer so I cant access his contact information.
I figure that since he's written several peer reviewed articles on what was common clothing and gear of the 1825/1840 Rocky Mountain Trapper, he's probably got a pretty good handle on what the available footwear was and what they looked like and how they were made. Also, he was the Consultant for guns, gear camp set up and Mountaineer training for the movie, The Revenant.
Bespoke means the boots are handmade to your exact foot measurements. If possible he and his lovely wife, Jaime take the measurments themselves. That's the way I was able to do it, but I'm sure he can accomodate however you need to provide your measurments.
I absolutely love my boots. I got weird feet and these fit perfectly right out of the box. Good luck whichever way you go. Having healthy feet is important.
Cheers, Doug T.
