I contacted "Pro Boards" and got the following response:

What happens to my forum if I pass away?

If a forum owner passes, the forum is not automatically shut down. The forum in theory can continue to run depending on the members, staff, staff permissions set, etc. At some point a situation may arise that would require an owner's intervention, and regardless of our knowledge of an owner's passing we can not step in and appoint or act as forum owner.

Upon passing, ownership of the forum then moves to the next of kin – following the laws of inheritance. This person has 5 options: 1) do nothing; 2) step in and run the forum themselves; 3) opt to transfer ownership; 4) close the forum; or 5) delete the forum.

The current forum owner does the have the right to specify what should happen with their forum should they pass, including assigning ownership to another existing member of the forum. The owner should contact a ProBoards Admin by posting on Support and outline the details of their wishes. The content of the owner's post will be attached to the forum via an internal information page that is only accessible to ProBoards Admins.

No action is taken on a forum until the owner's death is confirmed by a link to an obituary notice. The information in the obit (name and birth date) is compared to the record on file for the owner. For this reason it is important that forum owners have their true birth date listed in their forum/Global Account. The owner's true full name should be listed as well, however if an owner does not want their name listed on the Global Account it can be attached to the forum's internal information page. Contact a ProBoards Admin and make a request to have your full true name added to the forum's owner information. Your identity will be verified by email address and then you may submit your name via PM.

I don't know what we can do with that information but if someone is interested in taking over the board I would think that the first step would be to obtain a obituary from I would suspect "Mancos" Colorado...or perhaps Durango or Cortez. It would be good if owner transfer would go to two or more either as "owners" or "owner and moderators". It would be a shame to let Chuck's hard work go away. If you or someone you know wanted to take it over, you might contact Lloyd Moler as well and see if he wants to help out. I just took over "Last of the Plainsmen" board and in addition to not having fully the knowledge some of you folks have concerning the western fur trade I wouldn't volunteer myself. There are some very bright, knowledgeable folks here who are more than qualified.

Well sir, I'm not the person to be a moderator but I'm sure planning on sticking around and I hope everyone else feels the same. This is an excellent forum and it would be a shame to lose it after all the work Chuck put into it. He left a great legacy here.
