Howdy boys! Just signed on with this outfit yesterday. Been readin' the threads here fer quite a spell and decided this was a bunch what I wouldn't mind trappin' with. Me and mine are camped here in N.W. Oklahoma on the southern prairie. We've been back down here for about 18 years now after livin' up in Montana in the Bitterroot Valley for a year and then in northern Wyoming at the base of the Bighorns for 11 more. Had an itch that needed scratchin' so I drug the wife and little girl up there so's I could pack some mules and guide some elk hunters. Did that for a couple of years until I found out I couldn't hardly support my family doin' what I loved to do so I went to work in the local sporting goods store. But I love to hunt (especially elk) and even trapped a couple of beaver while I was up there. Sure do miss them Bighorns! Then we had to move back down here to be close to the parents that were gettin' older. We live about 10 miles outa town cuz a man hadn't oughta live anywhere where he can't step out the back door and do some shootin' and watch the coyotes and deer and turkeys and other such critters. I've always loved the history of the frontier and especially the mountain man and western fur trade period. Built a couple of guns 30 years ago including my trusty fullstock .54 flint "Hawken" and now as I get closer to retirement age I'm startin' to build guns again and get back into the mountain man way of life. Been doin' the buckskinning thing since the late '70s but not much since movin' back down here to the Cimarron country so I'm workin' on my fixins' now. Mostly I don't associate much with folks but just like to sit back and listen. Y'all are some pretty knowledgeable fellers 'pears to me. Anyway, I like the way yer stick floats and look forward to drinkin' yer coffee and sharin' yer fire.

Welcome TurkeyCreek! Sorry for the late reply. It gets kind of slow around here when everyone is busy and what not. This fire has a lot of knowledge around it and I'm sure you'll be adding to that. Everyone here has been very friendly and eager to help me learn anyways. Where 'bouts you at in Oklahoma? I'm on Cotton Wood creek in the Texas Panhandle. Pretty close to ya sounds like. I look forward to your posts.

Thanks for the welcome Jon! I'm located on Turkey Creek (go figure) a little S.W. of Enid in the northwestern part of Oklahoma. Sounds to me like you're up in the Adobe Walls country. Lot of history over there. Glad to be a part of this bunch. Really have enjoyed reading the back posts and have already been learnin' from y'all.

Wow, how did I not know about this website. This is just great. I've been involved with a few other boards but this one hits spot on with my interests. Thank you to whoever had the idea for this. Quick intro, I live in southern Idaho with my wife and one year old son. My main historical interest is in the Wilson Price Hunt Party which came through this part of Idaho in 1811 headed for the newly built Fort Astoria. I recently began my pilgrim period with the AMM so I'm in the throws of doing some serious work on my mountaineering skills. Just to share some of my adventures here's a link to a little blog I threw together. idmountaineer.blogspot.com/ I'm in this "hobby", if you want to call it that, to learn. So if you see anything that I could improve on in my gear, mode of travel, etc. I always welcome constructive criticism. YMHOS Matt
