Greetings fellow mountaneers and frontiersmen! Had some success this weekend trying to remove some nuisance beaver for a friend. Was using a #5 Bridger double long spring that I modified by adding a homemade square pan and a forged chain. It wasn't the biggest beaver that I've caught, but it was good to be out again. My bait Bottle was running low, so it was good to be able to fill again from the castor and oil glands from this one. Skinned it out using my butcher knife and pocketknife. Saved the tail to make a sheath, the backstraps and the hind quarters. I'll be bringing the meat with me to the Fort Union Rendezvous this summer, June 18-21, and if you happen around my camp you're welcome to enjoy some. Hope everyone has been wintering well. Nice, and nice chain. Did you forge it? I got a forged chain from Tio Morgan last summer to put on a Bridger 5, and hope to get some more this summer, but they aren't that long. Would like some more like yours.

I had purchased a couple from Fort Union last summer. I really like the length. I'll be spending some time at the forge there this summer and am going to trying my hand and making some more.

Thanks, I'll give them a call. Saying you got them at Ft. Union kind of jogged my memory a bit, and I think I recognize you from a picture in the fall issue of "Tomahawk and Long Rifle". One of my friends does a rifle building demonstration at the Fort Union rendezvous every year. Hope to attend some time. Enjoyed your trapping pictures.

Thanks! I've been told an article I submitted was in that issue. We've been trying to work out why I haven't received the past two issues. We confirmed that my newer contact information is up to date. I should be receiving them soon. If your friend who does the gun building demos also does clothing and other items with his wife, I'm pretty sure I know who you are talking too. Their items are top notch and they're fantastic people.

That's Mark. I've been talking about it to my wife and we think we'll make it to the Fort Union rendezvous this year.
