Morning folks,
Curious what everyone has been up to this winter? Any camps? Any projects? Let's get a discussion going.

Hey Leifer. Between two small boys and work I've been busy. I haven't got to camp any but plan on it. I have been doing some trekking though just testing out different ways of carrying my gear trying to find a way I like. I made me a market wallet this past weekend with some old ticking I had left over while it was cold and windy outside. I received some buffalo hair I ordered in the mail the other day. I'm trying to do a more authentic way of cleaning my rifle and pistol with it. I've also been searching for a good flintlock rifle. All I have is a percussion Lyman Great Plains and am wanting something a little more period correct. I too look forward to your posts Leifer and others posts as well on what everyone has been up to. I learn a lot this way.
Have a great day!

Jon, glad you're finding this forum useful. I completely resonate with work and young kids! In regards to experimenting with different ways of packing gear, if you haven't seen it already, here's a thread on the forum that was going a while back. rockymtncollege.proboards.com/thread/586/packs-moving-on-footLeifer

Well, in October I drove (from Lake Tahoe) to pick up a new (to me) 2 year old German Shorthair gun dog. Had a great time. Hunted my a$$ off, went to the Museum of the Fur Trade, saw great country. Yellowstone river drainage, Big Horn river, Missouri River, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, Nebraska and all that country I've been reading about forever. Got him home and discovered he had Heartworm, so have spent the last 3 months nursing him to good health. It's a process I would not have signed up for if I had known more about the process. But the things we will do for our kids and dogs! Unfortunately, I'm a hunting guide and bought a "started/trained" dog so I could guide this fall (my other Great dog passed in June). I now know more that I ever wanted to know about Hearworms in canines! So, I didn't guide, didn't hunt, BUT I've been able to go all through my gear and weed out the junk from 30 plus years of Rendezvousing and got started on making some good stuff. Handsewed a new shirt, started cutting into my stash of brain tan to make a few shooting pouches and starting a new 3 hide dress for the Wife. Working on getting the kinks out of my Wheeler Trade Rifle. That's the short story! Looking forward to Spring and a healthy dog and getting out and about. You asked! Doug

Sounds like a great time Doug...except for the dog's heart worm. I hope he's on the mend. I've just recently been given a half wolf and half Siberian husky dog because he needed a good home. Kind of a strange acting dog. I've never owned a dog quite like him but he's got a good temperament and is good with the kids. Thanks for the link Leifer, it was a great read. Lots of good info.

Funny to hear about yer dog, we have owned three of these over time. What you say about them is my finding too. Good dogs if you have the right look on things.
