So I bought a cheap CVA Kentucky pistol to practice customizing with and do everything myself. I've already put a small brass moon for a thumb piece I've got some pieces of buffalo horn I wanna sand and make some inlays out of but I don't know what I should make I was thinking about a hunters star I need some advice.

not specific to your question, but many years ago I also bought a CVA kit and "customized it" . One of the things I did was purchase a "checkering tool" from Dixie and did some checkering on the wrist. It turned out pretty nice. I believe I kept it simple and only put a silver oval on wrist for a thumb piece. This was a "I believe" a "belt pistol" so not as much of a canvas for inlays and such. The first fun I ever built was a CVA Kentucky but I didn't add anything to it but knew a gun engraver who did some engraving on the side plate and nose cap......he was fairly new and so he didn't charge me, but did a very professional job.....far better than the assembly I did.

I cut a small weeping heart out of the horn piece last night it came out surprisingly enough lol. Not real sure wear to put it I was thinking about on the butt but I don't know yet. I like the way it looks right behind the tang on my rifle but I'd sure hate to mess up that maple not near as worried about the pistol I plan on re-stocking it eventually anyway. Speaking of CVAs I severely dislike their lock plates every one I've had the screw for the sear always ends up stripping g the threads out of the lock plate due to it being cheap steel. Who makes a decent lock that won't want my arm and leg for?
