Oliver & Bill in Camp
Last weekend my good trail partner Brad and I headed over to Utah to meet up with our good friend Oliver (Hard Rider Fame) to enjoy a winter jaunt through the Cedar Breaks Nat Park. It was thought to be a 12 mile trip but ended up being just over 10 miles. We did this in a day and one half. We were at 10800 feet and hiked down to about 9600 feet. Some of it was on good trails which made for such good time and some was in cross country deep snow. Weather was quite good upper 30's and 3 feet + snow. On the trail I blew out the back end of my well used winter moc's and had the change into my lighter spare pair to finish out the trip. We did some Olympic style mountaineer sledding down hills, with full gear, snowshoes and loaded rifles. We all took the Gold! What fun. For Camp we found a spot under the trees with downed logs deep in the snow. We worked together digging down to earth and stocking up on wood for the night. Melted snow for water, smoked pipes, supped on elk, coffee & chocolate and enjoyed biscotti's. Some great views. Grand time was had by all. I hope these sketches post for you, still trying to figure it out. If they do I'll post more.

Alright! Looks and sounds like a great time, in some nice looking country, too. Looks like you've got alot more snow than we have, for sure. I haven't been able to use my toboggan this winter at all--you're making me jealous!

Yes, we do go out and do it. Its the only way to really understand & feel the experience as close as we can today. By travelling you just have to say that those men back in the days were tuff, they did this sort of thing every day. So for me by "doing it" I can learn so much that books just don't give you. With experiences one can talk about it with a better view and help share that with others so they can learn from our mistakes. Its so easy to pretend and go just so far. Please ask questions of me, I'd like to share what I do with you all. Oh, I don't know it all either

Just awesome Bill! Looks like a grand time. Are the sketches posted on the RMO website yet? I need to check them out. Thanks for the invite to ask questions. I've got plenty. I'm a young buck and don't have any like minded individuals here in the Texas panhandle but do a lot of solo practice. Jon
