My dad has a knife that I am trying to fix. The antler handle broke and I would like to remake the entire handle. I am wondering, what is the best way to remove the poured pewter bolster without buggering up the blade??

Isaac - Keep the heat low and wrap the blade in a wet cloth or mount it in a heavy vise (you can put the blade in the vise and wrap the tang with a wet cloth) to act as a heat sink with only the pewter and tang showing - depending on the pewter it melts around 450-600° so if the blade is protected it shouldn't get it hot enough to affect the temper of the blade. FWIW - I do this fairly often and never have had a problem - only other way is file it off using a double cut coarse file. Use a propane torch and keep it moving over the pewter
PS got the seeds!

Great!!! And thanks for the suggestions on the pewter... I know that it has been several months since this was posted but if you clamp the blade in the side of the vise and tilting down you can put something under it to catch all the pewter and reuse it since it is what your dad used.
