Here is a better pic of my pouch and horn, as well as my bearskin hat. The buffalo tug horn strap came to me by way of Issac, don't know if its from his ML kill or not.

I really like the bag! Did you make it?
Also, is attaching a knife to the back of a bag an 18th c. thing? I've did the same, then seen other folks who do the fur trade, do the same thing. I like it!

Jay Kell made the bag, its based on a bag that his father owns from PA.
I put the knife on there in the style of a bag that is attributed to Boone later in life.

Pare- Howdy Pare - there are at least two 18th C period references I know of for having a knife attached to the bag, one was Squire Boone.

"My powder horn and ball pouch always contained more or less ammunition; but on examination, I found them empty. My knife also, which I commonly carried appended to the strap of my shot pouch, was gone." ~ John Tanner, Great Lakes Country, c.1800 (Tanner, 112)
In Squire Boone's description of his famous hand to hand fight with the Indian at the Cove Spring fight in 1777 he talked about he and the Indian grappling for a knife that was "attached to his hunting pouch" strap, and both having a tough time grabbing it as the handle was slippery with both of their blood.

Alright Chuck... You have gone and done it. I have been wanting to re-read Tanner for the last couple weeks and now I HAVE to. This decides it. Reading # 6 of Tanner will commence tonight! IW

Okay, I got out this weekend to play with some new gear and get wet in the woods. Here is a pic of my assembled gear. I was going for ca. 1790-1810 gens libre/homme du nord here in the western Great Lakes and beyond. Here is a little write up on the day and a few more photos... frenchinwisconsin.com/2013/11/the-wet-woods/
