Keith glad you liked it - I;ve got it boxed up and will mail it most likely tomorrow - the bloody flu hit my wife and me and took the wind out of my sails pretty good but I'm back up and running again. For those who are interested: This is an early (1810-1840) Cheyenne style - the rawhide covered and carved body tucks under the belt and the pound beaded flap goes over the top to keep it from slipping down - the two thongs can then be tied to the belt or as an alternative can be laced through the flap to form a belt loop. The beadwork and carving are based on an earlier (1810 or so) original that was quilled but I used the beads in the same basic colors instead. here's the original sheath that I used for inspiration - some sources state this may have been an Eastern Sioux made piece, but the quillwork is in a very typical Cheyenne style seen on most later beaded sheaths and other gear, thus my "feeling" this a Cheyenne piece

That one is in the Peabody and was from the Hutter Collection. He has notes of much of his collection and has a knife "Scabbard" listed in there as Ojibwe. This does not fit the usual "Ojibwe" look but certainly could be Red River or Plains Ojibwe... or Lt. Hutter could have gotten it from an Ojibwe and it was something else, especially Eastern Sioux (Dakota). Hutter collected a lot from MN. It does have a lot of similarities to other Dakota sheaths gathered around Ft. Snelling (St Paul, MN) in the early 1800s, many in the Jarvis collection in the Brooklyn Museum.

Amazin' job on the sheath Chuck... A question if I may on the Peabody sheath. The rawhide seems to be incised with a small skive maybe, the lines inside the carvings.....And hide and quills seems to be dyed with yellow(lickens) maybe...Do you Gents think it was dyed then skived or dyed between the carvings? Awesome pic, the tinklers got to me...No more store bought ones.....Thanks
