Got a whitetail buck today---unfortunantly, I used a M1903 springfield 30-06, instead of my Deringer or Henry (took the Deringer last night for an hour, but didn't see anything). I SHOULD have had a muzzleloader, the buck was bedded down all of 15 yards away, I just walked up on him and shot him--I could have hit him with a rock, for that matter, he never got up.
Why is it when I take a muzzleloader, I see deer 250 yards away, I take a centerfire rifle and I'm almost close enough to touch them?
Anyway, my shot kicked up a muley buck, and 30 seconds later, my father got him. Meat in the freezer.....as soon as I get back down to the shop and start cutting them up.

I experienced the same thing a couple weeks ago. On Wednesday I'm heading out with my brother to try to get a doe specifically with my contract rifle. He's bringing his Baker with him. We'll see. Last time I had the contract rifle out the deer were a couple hundred yards out. When I had my 30-06 they were about 20 yards away. Got my buck, nothing to write home about. Hoping to get a bigger doe. Here's to hoping...

Passed up a bunch of doe and a small 8 pt buck this weekend sitting with my fusil. The were all so close I would have had to try and miss. Not needing meat this year, I decided to only shoot if it was a BIG one.
