1) Basically that early there are no real well known tribal differences for decoration, etc. amongst the Upper Missouri/Western tribes 2) Get a copy of Colin Taylor's "Yupika - The Plains Indian Woman's Dress" 3) Join the Yahoo group - it's free although you will need to get a Yahoo email email groups.yahoo.com/group/PlainsIndianSeminartwo/?yguid=174734538Then check their attachments - recently there were several images of original side fold dresses posted hat are seldom seen since most are in Euro museums. I down loaded most of the pics, but many are in large scale format 4) womenofthefurtrade.com/page9.html - there are several originals posted there For that early I would recommend mostly quillwork (especially if Cheyenne) with some pound beads ( 8/0 size is correct and I like the Crazy Crow Old Time French or German beads since they are closer to the original "softer" colors. Other deco items used then and there: Tin cones, cowrie shells, dentalium shells, brass beads, paint, fringe, brass buttons.

I'd stick to pretty much plain for that period - not much info out there that I can find. A bit of beadwork would be Ok and maybe a few big harness spots or very simple button types conchos (Not Navajo per se, but more like the early hair plates). Buckled with a double D style buckle or a simple roller buckle would be appropriate - width no more than 2 ". Or it could be tied in front. There are also Cheyenne style belt and bag combos that would be appropriate for time and place - Go to here: www.splendidheritage.com/nindex.htmlthen select region: PLains category: knife-knifecase everything else leave :all then click Display: you should then get on the bottom left item WC9508009 click on the thumbnail to see a larger image . I would not go so heavily beaded but the basic style is appropriate for the 1820's central/So Plains and Mtns.
