Mittens - Trigger finger appropriate?

Hello,
I have a customer who is interested in using the trigger finger style mittens for his fur trade impression, earlier part of the 19th century (pre-1840). Have any of you seen any original example or any mentions of them in documentation? I can peg them for mid century and later, but haven't seen anything from before. Thanks
