Not sure of the coat, haven't seen Muzzleloader lately, BUT... I have painted.
First you need pigment. For red, you can purchase REAL vermillion or get red ochre. Vermillion is brighter and more red generall. Yellow is yellow ochre. Black - charred stuff, soot, or lampblack. Greenish blue from verdigris, etc.
Then you need a medium. Depending on the area and tribal group, this is either fish roe/eggs (chicken egg can be used... that is called tempera paint in the art world) and others used hide glue. I have done both and prefer hide glue.
Mix pigment into medium and paint on with a chisel-stick-stylus. Historically this was often made of bone or antler.

Isaac is the powdered pigment from Crazy crow ok to use for this? Atrain I would imagine that it would work fine but I am not sure what tis is made of. Any powdered pigment would essentially work (with varied results), but if you want to be truly historic... make sure they are the above or something else documented. IW
