Well, the RMFT Journal's been out for about a month now, and I think I've read everything twice over at least. Once again, a series of informative articles, well worth the price. A question: In Jerry Entzler's article on Jim Bridger, he states that there is only one known photo of Jim Bridger, which is the one with him wearing a cloth coat and collarless shirt. Is the image on the left in the link below not thought to be Bridger anymore? www.pishtush.com/camwrangler/z-jimbridger.htmlFor me, the best article is Jim Hardee's one on the Columbia Fur Co. ledger--but then, that's in my area, so it grabbed my attention. The only kick I have about that article is Jim's insistance on referring to an early version of Ft. Union as Ft. Floyd. Ft. Union is not Ft. Floyd, and never was---I think we can thank Chittenden for that misnomer. Prince Maximillian, in his journals, makes it abundantly clear that Kipp's fort at the mouth of the White Earth River was named Fort Floyd---and he got his information for that directly from his travelling partner, Kenneth McKenzie, who ought to know. For further information on the name mixup, see Hunt, William J., Ft. Floyd, An Enigmatic 19th Century Trading Post, North Dakota History Magazine, Summer 1994. For those who don't know, Bill Hunt was in charge of the NPS archy digs at Ft. Union prior to reconstruction. Anyway, if you don't have your copy of the Journal yet, here's the website so you don't have any excuse: www.museumofthemountainman.com/Rod
