Kinda depends on you..
I bought 4 hides from him about 8 years ago. I made a pair of 18th century riding breeches out of them. I paid 12.50 a foot and thought it was great. These hides are tanned using the same fishoil method that white folks did in the 18th century.
I have seen Germans wearing Kneebundeshosen (leather knee britches) that are at least 40 years old and they are still going strong. Chrome tan will be nothing but tatters after that long and braintan not much better.
I still have one hide and I am praying that it is large enough to make the back side of a pair of wooley chaps..
