Found these English holster pistols complete with buckets on the Cowans Auction site this afternoon. Pretty neat set complete with pommel holsters. Brass 9" octagon barrels with .665" bores, Birmingham proofs 'London' markings. The locks are marked 'AW Spies' for the New York importer. Sean

Nope, I think the suggested bidding range is $15-25k. Most pistols like this go from $2-4k. This one is higher because its a set. Pretty cool none the less. The Miller field sketch of Walker has a set of buckets across his pommel. I've thought for a few years about building a set like this with saddle buckets. Maybe I'll get to it one of these days.

Sean - I am gonna be doing a research paper for my Brigade Newsletter - do you think these are the same/similar guns as those that were on the trade lists with the UMO at Ft Union in 1836 "2 pr Oct Brass barreled pistols"
Gonna be trying to put together some primary sources and images of what a typical mountain man may have carried or what might have been available to them
Also on the same list it lists "1 pr super twist barrel pistols" I am thinking perhaps a damascus barrel? Maybe rifled?

Sean, thanks for posting these. One or better, two, of these Brass barreled Trade pistols are on my "must have" list. Am I correct to assume that these are smooth bored? Is there any clue as to who made these for A.W.Spies?

FYI - Sean no longer posts here or on any forum I know of - too much living to do and not enough time.... Dan'l - super twist barrels are definitely Damascus - do a search for English dueling pistols for some good examples albeit they are on the high end of things. For more examples of brass barreled pistols check out the various auction sites such as Cowan's, James D Julia, etc. also check out the Gary Hendershott collections issuu.com/dreamedia/docs The Guns that Won the West #141 and 146 in particular

On a trip yesterday to the Texas Ranger Museum - I saw a brass barreled Ketland pistol - I need to get a good photo when I go back

Have a ton of brass barrel Ketland photos saved up. You see them on auctions like Cowans all the time. I just need to get me a repro!
