Hello all, Rod, Sean. I, like some of you, ordered the Firearms of the Fur Trade book from the MFT back in November. They said that they would begin shipping it in January. It's now the 5th of Feb. and I've nearly chewed all of my nails off waiting for it. Has anyone gotten theirs yet?

I haven't seen it yet, I must have a trail worn to the post office by now. Things are grinding slowly down at Chadron, it seems Rod

Yehaww! Mine arrived today. I've only spent perhaps a half hour with it but I can tell you that you will see things that you've not seen before. It is not a rehash of the same ol' same ol'. The format is wonderful, lots and lots of color pictures of guns and period prints. The binding is very proessional and classy. It is definately worth more than the $120 +s/h Softcover books of this genre are running $25 to 35.00 each. If you bought five of them they wouldn't contain anywhere near the information in this one vollume.
There should be one less UPS driver or, as I like to think one less stupid person walking the earth, soon. The SOB left it out on the patio where the eves drip. The box was soaking wet but fortunately the book seems OK. Whew. They have explicit instrctions to leave pkgs. on the porch under the roof - why wouldn't a reasonably inteligent person think to do that without instructions anyway. !? Sorry about the rant, I just want to strangle the guy.

You lucky b*st*rd! My wife says that that's what to expect from UPS---but then she works for the Postal Service, so she may have a slight bias. Of course, I kid her about the postal service crest-----crossed AK-47's below a crushed package, surrounded by a wreath of letters. Don't worry, I keep the guns and ammo safely locked away--but she reminds me (often!) that she's a better shot than I am ;D Rod

It's around $120 plus shipping, so it's not a cheap book, but it sounds like it's worth it. The MOFT hasn't updated the site for awhile---you'll do better to call them directly. 1-308-432-3843.

I got an email yesterday that Gail had dropped my copy off at FedEx, so now I'm waiting. It's fun tracking this thing through the FedEx website---mailed in Scottsbluff, NE, then it's been to Cheyenne, WY, and it's now in Henderson, CO. Sounds like it's getting further away! That book will have covered more western geography when it finally gets to ND than I have in years.

Where or how do you order the book? I looked on the Museum of the Fur Trade website and it isn't there. At least, I didn't find it. Shoot sharp, Mike

Got my copy today----WOW!!! Talk about impressive. This has got to be the most exhaustive book on trade guns I've ever seen---covering Swedish, Dutch, French, English, and US arms. There's even a section in the back on trade guns used around the world (South America, India, Africa, Southeast Asia). Bibliography looks good, Jim certainly went digging for some obscure source material. Looks to be money well spent, in my opinion.
