This is a 50 Cal. flintlock, 32” octagon barrel, all steel furniture. All metal is browned, with a full buckhorn rear sight, German silver front blade & barrel wedge plates If you had to put it into a time frame; what would you guess off the top of you head? I realize it is not an exact reproduction, but I am just having fun with it for now. I’d like to use the proper period type items to hunt with and get a feel for the equipment. I have gotten "bored" shooting deer with my bolt action and am ready to do it "the old fashion way". In order to do that, the way I want; I have to guess a period when a gun like this would first come on the scene. I have my ideas but I'd like to hear yours. Have a great day!!!! RKR

Rod,
Its an Austin-Halleck rifle, which is a company that went under a couple of years back. Realistically, she is circa early 21st century, functionally she is a mix of 1830-1850 styling. But no one will ever throw you out of a fur trade rendezvous for carrying that gun, and she should put the venison in your freezer just fine. I've never used one of those but I believe they are a step up from a Lyman Great Plains Rifle which is what I started out with and still own. If its your first flinter, there should be plenty of folks who will answer your questions on here about getting it to fire reliably once you start shooting her.

Rod, A Hawken she ain't, but she is a lot closer than my first one...
I think it is a great place to start....
Just read and study, and talk to knowledgeable folks like those on this board as you complete the rest of your outfit...
Good hunting
