...and ordered the first volume, Firearms of the Fur Trade, of Jim Hanson's 7-volume set, "Encyclopedia of Trade Goods". Got my express flyer from the Museum of the Fur Trade on Saturday, and called down there and spoke to Gail Potter yesterday. Pricey, but I'll bet it'll be worth it. The next volume (#4, oddly enough, they won't be in numerical order) on textiles is due out in 2012, so I guess I've got some time to save up. Been waiting for this for quite some time, vol. 1 was originally projected to have been out back in 2006.
Christmas comes in January for me ;D

COOL... keep us posted on it. Vol #4... textiles, Hmmmm... Is it weird that this excites me even more than the firearms one?

Rod,
Can you give us some more details on what that first book covers, what it costs, etc.
Thanks,
Sean

Well, it's not cheap---one of those that you swallow hard and order. $120 to MOFT members plus $12 shipping, $135 plus shipping to non-members. On the other hand, it's 600 pages, with 1500 illustrations, most of which are in color. I've been looking forward to this for a long time, but I knew that it would be spendy. It's supposed to cover all aspects of fur trade guns, Dutch, French, Belgian, English, American, and draws on many public and private collections worldwide.
I'll let you know when I get it (they will ship in January) if it was worth it--though I'm sure it will be.
