When we think Mountain Man pistols, most of us think about the big bore "trappers pistols." However I think this style was just as prevelent. Wanted to share with you guys... I have an AMM friend who lives a little ways over in Washington state but on the same river that I live on.. He is quite the machinist/gunmaker and he took the pistol in this painting and made a fine working copy of it.... This isn't a little muff pistol, it is a full size pistol that fills the hand good...

I like it. It looks very utilitarian.

Now that sure looks interesting. What's the caliber? Is it a screwbarrel, or do you need a rod to load it?

Rod, I think it is about a .38 caliber..
And yes it is a screw barrel... I don't have the wrench, so I haven't taken a look at the breech...
An AMM buddy of mine from up in Moyie Springs bought some snow tires on rims off of me, and he wanted me to hold it until he could come up with the cash... I told him it was alright, but he said he would feel better if I kept the pistol until he paid me off... He hung it on a peg in my library and there she hangs....
