I know what you mean... We have 208 members and no introductions. The fur trade has an endless amount of info to be shared, discussed, etc. Not to mention our projects, doings or other related things. Any new folks want to make their introduction? Pare-

We'd have alot more if everyone who browses this forum would join. Seems like whenever I log on, there's me and half a dozen or better 'guests' looking in. If you're reading this--and some of you undoubtably are----join up! We want to hear what you've got to say, join the conversation, c'mon, we don't bite too much.
In a similar vein, has anyone noticed the general drop off in all forums since the overwhelming rise of Facebook? I am a member of about 6 fora, and they've all slowed, especially over the past year. I've been tempted, but one of the biggest problems (at least from what I've been told) with facebook is that the information isn't archived. I'm always digging through past forum posts for some bit of information that I recall being posted. In that respect, forums should have the upper hand.

Yeah, I think Facebook has taken over when it comes to that. I check out places like the Trade Blanket, Rendezvous Friends and Mountain Men Traditions to see what all is for sale. Nothing else is really posted- no articles, paintings or museum pieces. Maybe its more about money than it is researching history. I honestly don't know... As of now, there's been 33 people who have checked out our posts and only you & I have replied. I'd like to see people active on here like they are on other forums. I belong to four forums and consider this one "home base". I was on Frontier Folk, but that sure has gone downhill, thanks to a few guys who think you have to go by their rules. Whatever... That's why I like this board and glad that Chuck invited me. While doing fieldwork at one of the Seminole sites, I found a handle to either a trunk or to a hide-covered document boxes. I also photographed an intact roller buckle the other day. Here is a picture of all three found in order. Pare-

I am here and always more than happy to post. This weekend I was up north doing some beaver scouting, kayaking, and picking wild cranberries. Otherwise...

I also, consider this forum "home base". But as for the slow time here it might be because for alot of the folks around here it is either harvest season, hunting season, or traveling season. Conversations pick up after November when people may be more intently researching winter projects and asking questions or completing some of those projects and posting photos of them. That's my .02.

I'm very grateful for this forum. Rod suggested it to me a couple of years ago. I have learned much and have tried to contribute back as I can. I've been holding off posting on a recent project because it's not finished yet. Been working on that St. Louis pouch. I just need to install a buckle and the button for the flap, do a little oiling and I'm done. That being said, anyone have a good suggestion where I can find a more appropriate brass domed stud button? I've been going out of my gourd trying to find one of those. I've taken a chance on some that I found on Etsy, however, half of them were actually plastic and not real brass as stated. As for Facebook, as mentioned above I as well a handful of the different pages. Some of them have some decent documented stuff that gets posted but that was mostly 18th century that I've come across. As Rod mentioned, they don't archive, so you have to scroll scroll scroll until you hopefully find what you're looking for. This week I was hoping to do a three day solo, but looks like I may have to run out to the farm to move a set of drills and a spray truck back to the yard to winterize. Really hoping that there hasn't been sprouted grain growing inside of the drills. We'll see how it turns out...maybe I can do a little bit of both I'm really looking forward to next weekend when I'll be out again, a stone's throw into North Dakota to a certain cabin where my 1790s contract rifle will make an appearance. And yes Rod, I'm bringing my shave kit to demonstrate my straight shaving prowess...lucky thing I'm an EMT... Leifer
