Howdy Mountaineers,I have another knife question. In 1820-40 era, would scalping knives have a diamond shape handle or octagon.I have always thought that the diamond shape was the more common, also what wood was most common,I was thinking box wood..Duane

From what I understand, rosewood, cocobolo, or other exotic tropical woods would be appropriate, as well. I've been told that the French actually used boxwood moreso than the English, but I don't know for sure. As for handle style? Diamond, octagon, flat with beveled edges---these seem to be all over the place, with no set style.
