Hey, fellas. I just wanted to take a minute and let it be known that Rod Lassey is North Dakota's newest member of the American Mountain Men. We are proud to have him and expect great things from him. Congrats, Rod and Welcome.

Thanks, Badger. Don't know about the 'great things' part, but I'll do my best to further the organization.

I'd be willing to bet that there are some AMM members pretty close to you...
We had a brigade in Central Texas when I lived there back in the 1970's and I know that most of those guys are still alive and in the AMM... My AMM number is 435... Old Graybeard... ;D ;D
I looked around a little on the internet last night trying to find the brigade that would be closest to you... My Mind wasn't working right and could not come up with the proper search terms to find the main AMM web site though....

What does it take to get one started in my area?

I'm guessing you could go to the website, and send an email asking about joining. There's no organized brigade in ND, so I'm doing a long-distance membership---I'd expect that might be the case for you, too.

Chuck, That is only a very small list of brigades. There are at least 3 brigades right close to Spokane... I forget the title of all of them, but David Thompson Party is the one that is right close to my place... I started out in the Jed Smith Party, then went to Texas (can't remember what that party was called, but Doc Grandee and Paul "Tanglefoot" Berry were in that party, then when I went back to Bend, I was with the Columbia Dept.

Cody,
I sent out this question: "Can you get me the contact info for a guy who wants to join the AMM in Louisiana? I think that falls under the EAST....'
I got this answer back: "It is Kraig Fallwell out of TX, but I don’t have his # off hand.. Have him call Mike Brannin (Eastern Segundo) 407-463-2645"

Last week?! You haven't seen us this week---we got a monster blizzard over the weekend (winter isn't over yet, it seems) that dumped 12-18 inches of very wet heavy snow--all propelled by winds that were blowing 50+ mph gusting to over 70 mph. Literally knocked me down while I was out attempting to check on the cattle. Got power back on a day and a half ago, although large parts of the Williston area are still without. As you can guess, we've got waaay more water than we know what to do with. Of course, this being North Dakota, by mid summer we'll probably be wondering why it doesn't rain Let me know when you're up this way, and we'll get together sometime. Rod

Don't worry Rod. I am bringing snowshoes and a rubber raft to Ft Union. I don't trust Ma Nature. Remember last year when we had torrential rains and 50+ mph winds for 2 days? It just makes us appreciate the beautiful days that much more. (or so I keep telling myself)

Rod - I sure will - I will be in around Watford City a few times this year I hope - between there and Minot.
South Dakota didn't look too bad compared to ND, last week
