Speaking of pants...

...I'd like to know more about keeping them from falling down! I'm a bit of a portly man. I've got a nice set of cotton duck trousers that are well made, however, they keep falling down! It's not due to how they were made, it's due to how I'm shaped. I know suspenders were being used. "Suspenders, 2 doz., Ft. Union Inventory 1834". This may seem an elementary question, but, did a guy just sew on extra buttons if he needed to use suspenders?

I have seen a variety of good discussions on suspender/brace construction but did not really pay attention as I do not have or use them. I believe most were attached with a simple button.
